Title: From Garden to Plate: A Weekend Yoga Retreat with Vivekan
Location: Heathen Hill
Description: A blissful weekend of yoga and seasonal living. When not practicing invigorating and restorative yoga sessions with the seasoned yogi, we’ll be practicing yoga off-the-mat–eating mostly organic, seasonal meals derived locally, straight from the property!
It’s a wonderful opportunity to de-stress in the fresh country air, and immerse yourself in your yoga practice. Not to mention indulge in nourishing, nutritious and delicious seasonal cuisine! Yoga practitioners seek balance in the body. Eating local, seasonal foods helps guide us into greater harmony with the earth’s natural cycles; and therefore brings us healthy equilibrium.

Vivekan is the founder and director of Park Slope, Brooklyn’s Bodhisattva Yoga. He was certified under Jayadeva, a direct disciple of Swami Satchidananda. “I have been especially inspired by teachers from Tibet, China, India & the West: H.H., the Dalai Lama, the late Sifu Sheng Yen, the late Sermey Khensur Lobsang Tharchin Rinpoche, Khyongla Rato Rinpoche & the clear-thinking empiricist, Serge Ledan, MD. Vivekan’s exposure to eclectic yoga styles, along with his home practice, has led to his unique approach to instruction, which he terms as Inspired FlowsTM. “My Inspired FlowsTM differ from class to class - I never come in with a script; it is based on the premise that fun and effort are not mutually exclusive.”
Vivekan has been featured on MTV Brazil and Channel 9 News, and inside the pages of Time Out NY and The New York Times.

Title: Keith and Katie “Bringin’ the Heat”
Location: Heathen Hill
Join Katie and Keith for a weekend of summertime yoga fun. What do you want to work on? What is confusing, unclear? What’s just so fun that you want to do it over and over again? Let us know, and that’s what we’ll teach. That’s right–we’ll be taking requests for this one, and we’ll have plenty of time to work and play! We’re looking forward to a weekend that hits all of the good stuff in asana — standing poses, backbends, forward bends, inversions, and restorative — as well as pranayama and meditation.
The food you’ll get will be grown right on the property. At breakfast, your dinner might still be growing. How’s that for local? Some of you know Lippy–she’ll be doing the cooking.
Here’s the Schedule:
Friday night: Yoga on the restorative side, followed by dinner.
Saturday: Breakfast, 3 hour yoga class, then lunch, time to yourself (hot tub? swimmin’ hole? play with the chickens?), and another 2 hour class. Dinner.
Sunday: 3 hour yoga class, Brunch, and we’re out!

Title: Being and Playing - Yoga at Heathen Hill
Location: Heathen Hill
Elizabeth and Kathy Wipff are excited to return to Heathen Hill for their 4th Almost- Annual Heathen Hill Retreat.
This year we will keep things simple: Yoga time will focus on the delight that brought us to the practice to begin with-a sense of play and wonder. The practice sessions will be wrapped around plenty of time to:
Spread your toes in the grass, turn cartwheels, sing songs, roast marshmallows, win at dominoes, talk to a new friend, swim, start a game of tag, get crafty, drink a glass of wine. Play!
Sit on the lawn, soak up the sun, float in the pond, listen to the frogs, knit a sweater , watch the chickens, walk through the labyrinth, stare at the sky, breath in and out, breath in and out again, take an extra savasana. Be!
See you there!
Elizabeth Wipff and Kathy Wipff are mother and daughter who have been practicing and teaching together for many years. Kathy Brings her gentle mellow southern California vibe and Elizabeth balances it out with her focused no-nonsense New York approach. They both see yoga as ever evolving, contemporary and non-dogmatic. But mostly, they just think it’s fun!

Title: Genny Kapuler Intermediate/Advanced - August 27-29
Location: Heathen Hill
Description:
More Info to come. Please Contact Heathen Hill
Genny Kapuler has studied yoga since 1976 and has been teaching since 1980. She has studied three times in India with the Iyengar family. Her primary teacher here is Mary Dunn.
Before the birth of her child and before she began teaching yoga, Genny performed as a modern dancer; for many years she had her own company. She is also trained as an Alexander-technique teacher and is a practitioner of Body-Mind Centering.
In addition to her yoga training, Genny has studied anatomy extensively.
She applies this knowledge to her understanding and teaching of yoga, directing her students toward a deeper awareness in asana and pranayama through precision of alignment. Genny also uses the poetics of language to guide her students, and to create “a mind-state in the room that is gentle and focused.”
Through Iyengar Yoga, she says, students attain ever more precise alignment of the skeletal-muscular, organ, and nervous systems. Working towards harmony of body, mind, and spirit, they are able to move out into the world with more grace.
